The F-150 isn't just America's favorite truck. It's the best-selling vehicle overall-a title held for over 40 years. So, it follows that the F-150 Lightning is one of the most significant new electric EVs to hit the market. The F-150 Lightning is just the latest in a string of successes for Ford, following in the footsteps of recently revived nameplates like the legendary Bronco 4x4 and the Maverick hybrid compact truck. And with electrifying performance and the capability to power an entire household for days, the Lightning moniker couldn't be more fitting.
The F-150 Lightning is powered by a four-wheel-driving dual-motor electric powertrain fed by either a Standard (98-kWh) or Extended Range (131-kWh) battery pack. Standard models generate 426 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque while achieving an EPA-estimated 230 miles of range. Springing for the larger battery boosts horsepower to 563 and range to 320 miles. Charging is easy, too, taking ~14 hours to charge the Extend Range battery from 15% to 100% with Level 2 home charging equipment. The available 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro (standard with the Extended Range battery) cuts charging time to ~8 hours. And at a 150-kW+ DC fast-charging station, replenishing capacity from 15% to 80% takes less than 45 minutes.
The F-150 Lightning can offboard at 9.6-kW of peak power, with a mix of 11 120V/250V outlets in the cabin, bed, and Mega Power Frunk. And with available Ford Intelligent Backup Power, the F-150 Lightning can keep a full household running during a blackout for up to three days on a full charge, or more if power is rationed.
