Ford Maverick Named 2022 North American Truck of the Year
As trucks continue to grow in both size and cost, some drivers have lamented the industry's lack of affordable, modestly sized pickups. But just when it seemed like smaller trucks wouldn't be making a comeback, Ford resurrected the segment in a big way with the compact yet capable 2022 Maverick. With its versatile FlexBed™ System, multi-position tailgate, and functional add-ons-including a bed-extender, tonneau box cover, in-bed cubbies, 110V outlets, and more-the all-new Maverick offers plenty of practical utility without imposing space requirements.
A truck for people who never knew they needed a truck, Maverick was an instant hit with customers and critics alike. And it now has the accolades to prove it, taking home the distinguished title of 2022 North American Truck of the Year. The North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year Awards (NACTOY) are chosen by a panel of 50 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada to recognize the year's most outstanding new vehicles-those demonstrating "excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction, and value."
Jurors praised Maverick for being urban-friendly yet highly functional and offering an extensive roster of desirable features, even in its base configuration. They also appreciated that, besides providing pickup utility, it's also affordable, efficient, and accommodating overall. Maverick comes standard with a hybrid powertrain that's more efficient than many compact cars (EPA est. 37 mpg combined). Plus, with a standard payload capacity of over 1,500 pounds, it can haul more than many larger midsize pickups. And even with the available 250-horsepower 2.5L EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive, Maverick achieves an impressive 25 mpg combined.
